Fiction Section Weeded
and Organized
In preparation for next year's new books, last week Ms. Rohrbeck and Mrs.
Shembari began to reorganize and recover books in our fiction collection.
Yellowed unreadable paperbacks were weeded and more space was made to
accommodate an anticipated influx of fiction titles during the 2006 / 07
ordering year. A continued effort to reshape our collection in the
age of Internet includes increasing titles in this particular section by
about one third.
Winter Vacation
- When entering
Tenafly High School’s Lalor Library Media Center on Tuesday during the
winter vacation, one could observe a mountain of supplies stacked on
several tables. On the other side of this mountain were THS library
secretaries Jean Rohrbeck and Linda Paganis. Taking it upon
themselves, they emptied every supply cabinet, closet, and cubby hole with
the intention of taking stock and bringing order. A day later the
mountain was gone, and everything was methodically placed back, in order,
with full knowledge of exactly what is where and how much we have.
This work is so very important in the war against disorder and a constant
fight, especially in a busy library media center. It is also
important for efficient re-ordering of supplies for next year. Many
thanks to Jean and Linda for taking this initiative, for their work, and
for putting disorder in its place!!
- Linda Paganis
has taken over for Julie in the library media center. Linda was an aid in
the cafeteria. Welcome Linda!
January 2006
During the holiday break, thanks to library secretary
Jean Rohrbeck, all of the new books on display in the TV studio have
been shelved. Ms. Rohrbeck also conducted an inventory of the VHS
collection, updating information and correcting irregularities. The
last shipment of books is due in soon. A reconfigured electronic
reference center will allow students better access to non-log-in computers
for fast print out of articles from the library's subscription databases.
Thanks to the Tenafly High School Home School
Association Broadcast Fund, the library media center has been able to
add the following to our broadcasting setup:
▪
Added camcorders
for student loan. All camcorders are now checked in and out at the
circulation desk with specific approval from subject teachers
▪
Purchase of 2 100 meter multi-core camera control cables enabling the
relocation of the camera control units from the studio into the TV control
room
▪
Purchase of a multiple use Ikegami ITC-730A studio camera
placed in the academic theater for use as a "flashcam" for recording
educational bulletins and video email. A self controlled
teleprompter, lapel microphone, lighting, and blue screen for chroma-keying
makes the flashcam setup the ideal video communication tool. See
example
of what can be produced here.
