CNBC'S Mark Morrison Welcomed By
Mr. Stanek's Students Performing
"The
Mission"
18
May 2004 -
CNBC's Mark Morrison visited Tenafly High School to check on how the school's
TV station integrated CNBC's recent equipment donation. Mr. Morrison
did not know that there was just a little bit more planned for him.
Mr. Stanek, THS's Band Director worked with his
students to perfect an appropriate piece of music to celebrate Mr.
Morrison's arrival. Seated in and around the TV studio, Mr. Stanek's
students performed "The Mission" by John Williams, NBC's familiar theme song,
as Mr. Morrison walked into the library.
THS
Principal, Dr. Kontogiannis and Vice Principal Dr. Pfeiffer were there to
greet and present a framed picture to CNBC's
Mr. Morrison. The picture, taken during a recent field trip to
CNBC's new Englewood Cliffs headquarters includes Mr. Morrison, in
front of CNBC standing with Mr. Moger's TV production class. The
week before, Mr. Morrison had kindly invited Mr. Moger's TV production
classes for a wonderful tour of their
most impressive state-of-the-art facility.
As the visit progressed, Mr. Morrison was shown
the TV Control room and how CNBC's donated Panasonic AQ20 TV camera, Microtine TBC, Hum bar filters, VU meters, wave form
monitor, vectorscope, and
other donated equipment had been integrated into THS-TV broadcasting
facilities.
We once again thank CNBC and Mr.
Morrison for making such equipment donations possible. It is a
wonderful example of the private and public sector working together to
give students valuable practical experience.

Tenafly Played Part in New Jennifer Garner Movie
“13 going on 30”
23 April 04 - About a year ago we were contacted by Leslie Rollins, set decorator for “13 going on 30”. Santiago Quinones, location manager for the movie visited Tenafly and its high school several times. He took numerous pictures and the library shipped many past THS yearbooks to Sony Pictures, all in preparation for the movie. Released April 23, “13 going on 30” takes place in “Tamerak”, a town that could very well be Tenafly.
“13 going on 30” appears to be a light romantic comedy, but I believe it is a valuable movie that can also fall under the category of a morality tale. Thirteen year olds can be very cruel to one another, and this can be the cause of a lot of pain. The ability to be cruel can stay with us, carried to other parts of our lives, to include the workplace. This story shows what its consequences can be, and really, how inefficient it is. It also shows how being kind can make for a happier and more fulfilled life. Jenna Rink, the 13 year old in this movie learns this.
With this in
mind, “13 going on 30” is well worth seeing at any age. Tenafly should be
proud that in a small way, it contributed to the movie. I hope this movie will
be seen by many, especially young people, who are in the midst of deciding how
to be in life.

23 April 04 - Thanks to the generosity of some major media corporations in the area, students now have additional television equipment and larger computer monitors to work with. Equipment includes a Vinten Kestrel Camera Crane, a 3 CCD Panasonic camera (our first!), two pan and tilt heads, equipment racks, sync generator, speakers, hum bar isolators, and much more. We are tremendously grateful to those supporting our successful ongoing television facility experiment! Permission to publish names of corporations pending.
OPACs ON THE MOVE!
03 April 04 - Where are the
electronic card catalogs? Soon after we get back a major library
rearrangement will be completed. The computers used to search the catalog
will be placed on either side of the seating area right in front of the library
book shelves. They will be powered from floor outlets, and thanks to the
technology department, the data will travel through the air via wireless
connection.
