THS WELCOMES DAEGU METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT |

Visiting teachers presented Dr. Kontogiannis with a beautiful plaque. |
| It was indeed an honor to welcome teachers from the Daegu Metropolitan School District, Dague Korea, last week. Over 25 teachers from Daegu visited, of which four came to our high school. They observed many classes and visited our library media center. |
| Thursday night, Daegu school district hosted an event and dinner at the Palisadium, a fine Korean restaurant in Edgewater, where faculty from Daegu and Tenafly got to know each other better. Gifts were presented, a delicious buffet was enjoyed, and there was plenty of dance and karaoke. What an honor it is for Tenafly educators to have the opportunity to get to know these fine fellow educators from Korea! We wish them a great trip. |

Tenafly High School to be featured in High School Spirit Week on MTV's Total Request Live (TRL)
For their upcoming High School Spirit Week on TRL, MTV wanted to include high school television and news shows, featuring student anchors. Mr. David DiGregorio, Media Specialist, and Mr. Steve Moger, TV/Video Instructor were thrilled to participate in this unique opportunity with their students. On Wednesday, March 23rd, MTV News Correspondent Sway and his crew came to Tenafly High School to do our daily live broadcast with us. The two television classes joined together for the production, with students handling all aspects of the production as usual - from directing, to cameras, switcher, teleprompter and all. Those students not manning the equipment served as our studio audience for the event. It was very exciting to work with Sway as he read some of our news stories; and in exchange, two of our students were given the opportunity to introduce MTV news features. The production team from MTV was most impressed with our facility and our students and even took time out to talk to the kids about broadcasting schools, internships and life in the professional television world. We have been told that the 60 minutes or so that we spent on the production will be edited down to a 2 to 3 minute feature which will air during MTV's TRL on Monday, March 28, 2005 between 5:00pm and 6:00pm. So tune in to MTV and check us out! |
NUREMBERG TRIALS PROSECUTOR
HENRY T. KING VIDEOCONFERENCES WITH
MR. MORRISON'S US II HISTORY CLASSES |
Event Broadcast Live to the Community |
Some of Professor King's remarks: |
"There had been 58.5 million people killed in World War II and somebody had to be held responsible and we had the men on the dock who were primarily responsible for those killings" |
"Jackson said documents would be more important because documents cannot be contravened, witnesses could be destroyed by bringing up background, so he wanted a documentary case and it worked out well and that's why the judgment has stood the test of time". |
"At least some of your energies have to be tithed for humanity as a whole, to get outside of yourself" |

Feb. 18, 2005 - Henry T. King, professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, Nuremberg Trials prosecutor, and author of "The Two Worlds of Albert Speer" met via videoconference with social studies classes taught by Mr. James Morrison. Professor King began with a short opening statement, and then took questions from Mr. Morrison's students. The conference was very interactive and at its conclusion Professor King included an inspiring closing statement. The event captured and conveyed a very unique educational experience spanning generations and bridging distance.
Students in both sessions were very well prepared. Professor King often responded to students by stating "that's a good question". Sections of Professor King's book were assigned reading, and copies were placed on reserve in the high school library in advance of the event.
The videoconferences were broadcast throughout the school's television system for other classes to witness, and also to Tenafly homes via Cablevision cable access 77 and throughout the world via Internet video streaming. Justin Schroeder, a high school junior, manned the TV control room and was in charge of the live broadcast. These videoconferences are now available on-demand on the broadcast and streaming page of www.librarymedia.net.
We are tremendously grateful to Professor King for speaking with Tenafly students. It was a landmark opportunity for all of us to learn more about one of the darkest periods in history, and through justice, of which Professor King beautifully represents, one of the most hopeful times. |

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION ENHANCED THROUGH NEW
DLP PROJECTION TV |

Mr. Morrison in Room 225 |
Classroom instruction has been enhanced through the use of a 52" DLP projection TV. H.S.A. funded and discounted by Saga, (a relatively new store located in Tenafly) this set enables teachers to present PowerPoint, Web content, DVDs, and Video to enhance instruction. As easy to use as a TV, this device does not require a room to be dark and provides a brilliant HD image. Unlike older projection televisions, the DLP technology provides a wider viewing angle, making them quite suitable for classroom use. Its ease of use and neat self contained appearance fits well into a classroom situation. So far there have been nothing but positive comments from teachers and students. |
