Library Media Center’ s Internet Home is www.LibraryMedia.net

The Lalor Library Media Center now has its own Internet address thanks to funding provided by the H.S.A.  A powerful computer (purchased with funds from the T.E.F. and H.S.A.)  located in the professional development area is used for the creation and modification of our site. Our site domain, www.LibraryMedia.net, contains information concerning THS library media facilities.  It features a “clickable” floor plan, provides an access point for subscribed database services (available on campus only) and allows for feedback through our “guest book”.    Subscribed services include the Bergen Record Archives, Project Muse, Proquest, and Electric Library providing full text articles from a wide variety of newspapers, magazines, journals, transcripts, and reference books.  While visiting our site, you may also make recommendations for book and media acquisitions and join clubs.  Many thanks for the expert help of Ido R. for helping with the  “Library Layout” page.

NEWS BULLETIN

Mr. Ed Fuller at ABC Inc. Central Stores has donated cable, RF modulators, distribution amps,  (for cabling classrooms), cameras, camera pedestals, patch cables, rack mounted equipment of all types, and even chairs to our media center.  Purchased new, this equipment would easily total in the tens of thousands of dollars.  We thank Mr. Fuller for providing Tenafly students with opportunities and experiences they would not have had if it were not for his efforts in making this happen.

Contribution of Scientific American Enhances Library Resources

The library recently acquired a collection of Scientific American Magazines dating back to 1971 and indexed through a CD-ROM.   The collection is located in the electronic Reference Center.  This resource was contributed by William J. Thompson  (Dorothy Collins’ father) and will be especially useful to THS science students.  On behalf of the students and staff, we wish to thank Mr. Thompson for making this new resource possible.

THS Students’ Generosity Help Taiwan Earthquake Victims

Jack H. (‘02) asked if he could set up a box for the purpose of collecting money for the victims of the Earthquake that recently hit Taiwan.  The box was placed in the center of the library, and in little more than a week, a total $115.00 was collected from Tenafly High School students and staff.  This money was promptly sent to the Tzu-Chi Foundation with this note written by Jack:

Dear Tzi Chi Foundation,

I got the news from the Internet about the Taiwan earthquake.  It made me feel shocked and very sad.  I asked myself a thousand times “What can I do for that?”  One of the best ways was going to my school and asking everybody for donations.  At least now I’ve done something for Taiwan’s victims.  Now I’ll send this money to you (Tzi-Chi Foundation) that will help Taiwan’s victims a little bit, thanks to my whole school, teachers and students, for their donations.
